About the position

The Technical Project Manager for Website and Database at the University of California, Berkeley, will play a pivotal role in the complete redesign of the bampfa.org website and the development of a new Content Management System (CMS) for the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA). This part-time, contract position requires collaboration with a core project team, external vendors, and key stakeholders across the institution. The successful candidate will manage the project from inception to completion, ensuring that the new website and CMS meet the needs of both internal and external users. The project manager will oversee the gathering of data regarding institutional needs, conduct vendor and market research, and draft a Request for Proposal (RFP) to facilitate the selection of an appropriate vendor for the website rebuild. The Technical Project Manager will be responsible for setting and managing project deadlines, communicating with stakeholders, tracking budgets, and providing technical consultation throughout all stages of the project. This includes the transition from the current platform, potentially from Drupal to WordPress, and the implementation of a CMS that will house BAMPFA's upcoming and historical events, programs, and exhibitions. The position requires a strong understanding of web best practices, project management skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders. The role reports directly to the Director of Administration & Strategic Initiatives and is integral to ensuring a smooth transition to the new website and CMS, ultimately enhancing the digital presence of BAMPFA.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end redesign and rebuild of the bampfa.org website.
  • Work directly with an outsourced web developer to ensure project goals are met.
  • Set key milestones and deadlines for the project.
  • Identify relevant stakeholders for all stages of the project.
  • Communicate expectations to stakeholders and vendors.
  • Act as the project lead and primary point of contact for all internal stakeholders and outside contractors.
  • Offer input on technological approaches and vendor selection based on expertise.
  • Develop detailed project plans for the website and CMS deployment, including wireframing and sitemaps.
  • Guide the implementation of a Content Management System that works in tandem with the website platform.
  • Manage the RFP process, including contact with potential vendors and guiding them through the application process.
  • Monitor budget and resources, ensuring the project stays on budget.
  • Manage feedback and input processes to meet strategic initiative project goals.
  • Maintain all research and meeting notes, as well as documentation pertaining to all stages of the project.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years experience managing complex technical projects or comparable experience.
  • Proven experience as a Project Manager in web design and development projects.
  • Understanding of web best practices, including web standards and accessibility standards.
  • Experience with HTML, SASS/CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices, including 301 redirects and image alt tagging.
  • Strong portfolio of diverse projects, including UI/UX design case studies.
  • Knowledge of web hosting environments and website migration processes.
  • Experience in testing websites across various browsers and devices.
  • Experience working with Filemaker or other database software, and knowledge of relational database design.
  • Experience using SQL queries to access and format data.
  • Experience with both front-end and back-end web development technologies.
  • Experience working with WordPress.
  • Advanced organization and project management skills with a successful track record.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven leadership ability with effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and analytical mindset.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to track and communicate project progress and costs.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Benefits

  • Professional development support with at least 80 hours (10 days) of paid time per year.
  • Part-time contract position with a budgeted annual salary of $125,000 (100% rate), $50,000 (40% rate).
