About the position

The Technical Project Manager role is a critical position within our dynamic team, aimed at managing large and complex IT infrastructure projects. These projects may include wired and wireless networks, telephony systems, audio/visual setups, cabling infrastructure, and cellular networks, particularly in the context of new construction or building renovations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fluid environment with multiple stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to see the big picture while proactively leading and guiding the project team. This role requires a strong focus on improving processes, managing project budgets, and knowing when to escalate issues or remediate risks. Consistent documentation and useful project meeting notes are essential to propel the project forward and keep all stakeholders informed. In this position, the Technical Project Manager will embrace UIT's best project management practices and provide regular updates to executive sponsors. The role encompasses the full range of the project management cycle, including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing projects. The candidate will independently lead and direct projects that require high levels of functional integration and involve multiple disciplines. This includes developing action plans, estimating resource requirements, facilitating discussions, and driving consensus among stakeholders. A comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan will also be part of the responsibilities, ensuring that all project scope and stakeholder needs are met effectively. Additionally, the Technical Project Manager will assist with the UIT PMO project intake process and procedures, coordinating project qualifications and demand management, creating resource plans, and evaluating resource constraints. The role will also involve contributing to process improvement initiatives as defined in the PMO roadmap, ensuring that the project management office operates efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage large and complex IT infrastructure projects, including wired and wireless networks, telephony, A/V, cabling infrastructure, and cellular networks.
  • Lead and guide the project team while improving processes and managing project budgets.
  • Provide useful project meeting notes and documentation to propel the project forward.
  • Embrace UIT best project management practices and provide updates to executive sponsors.
  • Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing.
  • Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional integration and involving multiple disciplines.
  • Develop action plans and estimate resource requirements for projects.
  • Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendations and consensus.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive change management strategies and communication plans relative to project scope and stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholders, constituents, and disciplines across Stanford and beyond, including local cities/counties.
  • Risk-manage, control, and report on risks associated with complicated projects affecting division or program as it relates to their project portfolio.
  • Adapt to tools, methodologies, and practices used by the UIT PMO.
  • Assist with administering the UIT PMO project intake process and procedures, including coordinating project qualifications and demand management.
