About the position

The Technical Project Manager at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center plays a pivotal role in managing and driving technical teamwork for the Data Science Lab Technical Team. This position is integral to aligning the team's efforts with the product priorities set by the Data Science Lab. As a Scrum Master, the Technical Project Manager will facilitate the breakdown of work into manageable tasks and stories, collaborating with the team to set estimates and ensuring that necessary scrum ceremonies are conducted effectively. This role requires close alignment with product managers to prioritize technical work and drive product features to delivery. In this position, the Technical Project Manager will facilitate the execution and adoption of Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, retrospectives, and reviews/demos. The individual will support and coach the technical team through agile and scrum practices, helping to eliminate impediments by engaging the right stakeholders within the organization. Additionally, the Technical Project Manager will assist product managers in managing the backlog and guiding the team while fostering a healthy team dynamic regarding priorities and scope. The role also involves working with product managers to develop and present sprint-level reports, such as burnups, cumulative flows, and velocity charts, to analyze and assess team capacity and resource allocation. Ensuring that the work implemented by teams adheres to the steps and procedures outlined within the definition of done (DoD) framework is crucial. The Technical Project Manager will document project work, participate in story and epic development, and ensure that documentation is current and well-maintained. Furthermore, this position requires collaboration across departmental groups to manage feature development for cross-institutional products and projects, as well as coaching and mentoring other technical project managers in agile project management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor technical project managers about agile project management.
  • Work with multiple stakeholders across the institution to ensure sprint reviews are effective.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years IT project management experience.
  • Experience with project management tools, methodologies, and best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing multiple projects for the full life cycle utilizing a project management methodology.
  • Scrum Master Certification.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced dynamic environment with high degrees of ambiguity to deliver large and complex data projects.
  • Experience managing more than one Scrum team.
