About the position

The Technical Project Manager at Avangrid is a pivotal role within the Customer Services & Systems department, reporting directly to the Director of CS Business Transformation. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the implementation of IT Applications projects, ensuring that they align with the company's strategic objectives and are delivered on time and within budget. The Technical Project Manager will manage large-scale programs and projects, with budgets ranging from $20 to $30 million, and will act as a liaison between the IT group and various business units to provide effective IT solutions that meet the company's needs. In this role, the Project Manager will coordinate and align multiple projects within a program, which includes developing project scopes, creating project teams, and managing these teams in a matrix style across various business and IT areas such as Architecture, Infrastructure, Governance, Security, and Networking. The Project Manager will also be responsible for solution design creation, obtaining solution sign-offs, executing project designs, and ensuring operational handover and project closeout. A key aspect of this role is managing customer expectations regarding project deliverables and stakeholder communications, as well as implementing effective project governance systems. The Technical Project Manager will lead cross-functional project teams, hold regular status meetings, and provide management with the necessary linkage for decision-making outside of day-to-day activities. This position also involves managing vendor relationships and overseeing contractors and contingent workers on a project-by-project basis. The Project Manager will participate in the preparation of plans and budgets for programs and projects, manage progress against these plans, and take corrective actions as needed. Additionally, the role requires adapting to various vendor styles and methodologies, including Agile, where the Project Manager may serve as a Scrum Master, ensuring that Agile practices are effectively utilized throughout the project lifecycle. Overall, the Technical Project Manager is responsible for delivering projects that meet corporate objectives for capital investment, managing project scope, schedule, and budget, and ensuring that all project documentation is maintained accurately for auditing purposes. This role is critical in ensuring that Avangrid meets its strategic goals while delivering high-quality IT solutions to its customers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and aligns multiple projects within a program.

  • Maintains project schedules and milestones and provides accurate project documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Business, or a related field required.
  • 10 years or more of related field or IT equivalent work experience required.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Strong understanding of different software development methodologies and best practices.
  • Experience in program/project management.
  • Certification for Project/Program management preferred.
  • Experience with AGILE methodology preferred.
  • Knowledge of IT design and architecture.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience in leading projects and/or teams.
  • Experience managing projects with GIS integrations to Enterprise Systems.
  • Prior management supervisory experience.
