About the position

The Strategic Security Sciences Division's CBRN Detection and Analysis Department at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Technical Project Manager. This role is pivotal in providing planning and operational support for global security initiatives, particularly in monitoring and verifying arms control treaties and agreements. The selected individual will be responsible for project management, financial tracking, reporting, and event planning, ensuring that programmatic work is implemented effectively and that tasks assigned to team members are completed on time and meet project requirements. In this position, the Technical Project Manager will track due dates and the submission of work deliverables to sponsors, create task implementation plans, and obtain necessary approvals from principal investigators (PIs). The role involves issuing clarifications and guidance to personnel based on these plans, tracking work progress on Argonne-led projects, and identifying any issues that may impact project deliverables. The individual will also assist PIs with purchases and the document review process, schedule and plan trainings, exercises, and workshops, and manage project budgets, including tracking incoming funds and spending. The Technical Project Manager will work closely with sponsor relationship managers and support PIs across the laboratory, maintaining strong relationships with collaborators at other DOE laboratories and program managers. This position requires a strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple deliverables and tasks under tight deadlines. The selected candidate will be expected to communicate effectively with various stakeholders and maintain accurate budget records while ensuring compliance with Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Track due dates and submission of work deliverables to sponsors.
  • Create task implementation plans and obtain approval from principal investigators (PIs).
  • Issue clarifications and guidance to personnel based on implementation plans.
  • Track work progress on Argonne-led projects and tasks.
  • Identify and communicate issues impacting project needs or deliverable deadlines.
  • Implement improvements to address issues and enhance work efficiency.
  • Track and document submission of intermediate and final project deliverables.
  • Assist PIs with purchases and the document review and release process.
  • Schedule, plan, and prepare trainings, exercises, and workshops hosted at Argonne.
  • Track incoming funds against approved work budgets and manage purchase agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 4+ years of project management experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Organizational skills to track deliverables and activities.
  • Experience in maintaining detailed budget and cost records.
  • Ability to draft high-quality reports and presentations using Microsoft Office tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Project management credentials (education, PI certification, and/or working experience).
  • Basic knowledge of science and/or engineering related to arms control monitoring and verification.
