About the position

Innova Solutions is seeking a Technical Project Manager to join our team. This position is a contract-to-hire role, lasting for six months, and is primarily remote, although candidates must be local to Topeka, KS. The Technical Project Manager will be responsible for the initiation, planning, execution, and closure of various projects. This includes developing comprehensive project plans, coordinating with both agency business and IT staff, ensuring compliance with established standards, managing project resources, tracking progress, resolving issues, and providing oversight and reports to leadership. The role also involves supporting the Project Management Office (PMO) in portfolio management and maintaining project management tools and practices. The Technical Project Manager will engage in project planning and development by crafting and refining project plans that include schedules, communication strategies, and quality controls tailored to meet project objectives and align with organizational goals. They will initiate and manage project-specific tools such as MS Project and SharePoint, ensuring efficient project tracking and collaboration. Evaluating project compliance against established architectural standards and policies is crucial, as is providing oversight and guidance to business and IT managers to ensure adherence to project planning standards and methodologies. Tracking and reporting progress is another key responsibility, where the Project Manager will monitor the project's timeline and budget, ensuring deliverables meet predefined quality standards while proactively addressing any deviations. The role also requires facilitating issue and risk resolution by identifying, documenting, and resolving project issues and risks, employing strategic problem-solving to mitigate impacts on project outcomes. Additionally, the Project Manager will support the PMO by contributing to portfolio management, enhancing project management practices, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Crafting and refining comprehensive project plans, including schedules, communication strategies, and quality controls.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher is preferred.
  • Three years of experience with IT-related project management or five years of experience in IT project management.
  • Proficiency in project planning, execution, monitoring, and closure techniques, including the use of project management software tools like MS Project and SharePoint.
  • Strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving capabilities to evaluate project compliance and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills for coordinating with agency business and IT staff and facilitating meetings.
  • Strong leadership abilities to provide guidance and oversight, influence project outcomes, and motivate team members.
