The principal role of a Technical Project Manager is to develop and maintain a technology project plan, which includes a project's tasks, milestone dates, status, and allocation of resources to stakeholders and other parties. The TPM is responsible for defining and quantifying each step and establishing concrete deadlines for each project milestone and deliverable. They must have a demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges and to find resolutions in a proactive manner. The technical project manager handles all the complex aspects of the project; these aspects may be subject to constant change to accommodate commercial and client conditions that directly affect implementation financials. The technical project manager should have at least a bachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS), computer science, or a related engineering field. In addition, they will have or be in pursuit of one or more certifications from PMI (the Project Management Institute) that demonstrate understanding of the fundamentals associated with this position. The technical project manager should have superior communication, arbitration, and team building skills. They must resolve scheduling and asset utilization conflicts on a regular basis.
