About the position

The Technical Revenue Accounting Manager position is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, California, requiring in-office attendance 50% of the time. This role reports directly to the Sr. Revenue Accounting Manager: Technical, Product & Strategy and is pivotal in managing various projects across the business. The successful candidate will lead a team that collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders, including Strategic Finance, Tax, Legal, Business Development, Product, Operations, and Accounting. The primary focus will be on shaping new product offerings, evaluating growth campaigns, and serving as a key point of contact for all revenue-related considerations in their area of expertise. In this role, the Technical Revenue Accounting Manager will partner closely with the Revenue Operations team to ensure that the policies developed are effectively automated within the revenue reporting systems. This position is crucial for developing technical accounting conclusions that will help scale the company's offerings and provide valuable insights to Strategic Finance for investment decisions. The manager will evaluate new products, feature updates, and cross-platform initiatives to assess their revenue impacts and document the relevant accounting conclusions. The role also involves owning the review of accounting policies and creating mock-ups of journal entries to inform stakeholders about how new products will affect financial statements. The manager will critically analyze non-recurring transactions, identifying the accounting implications of various explicit terms and implied nuances, applying appropriate accounting rules, and exercising judgment in subjective areas to draw reasonable conclusions. Additionally, the manager will project manage across multiple workstreams, ensuring timely documentation and delivery of conclusions to the business, and participate in critical accounting projects, including finance transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new products, feature updates, growth campaigns, and cross-platform initiatives to determine their revenue impacts and document relevant accounting conclusions.
  • Partner across multiple cross-functional teams as the leader for all revenue accounting related matters on new products, product feature updates, M&A and business development proposals.
  • Own review of accounting policies and mock-ups of journal entries to provide stakeholders an indication of how new products will impact the financial statements.
  • Critically analyze non-recurring transactions by properly identifying the accounting implications of various explicit terms and implied nuances, applying appropriate accounting rules and literature and exercising judgment in subjective areas to draw reasonable and acceptable conclusions.
  • Partner with Revenue Systems and Finance Engineering teams to provide accounting requirements for new products.
  • Present key conclusions to Accounting, Tax, and Strategic Finance leadership.
  • Project manage across multiple workstreams, teams, and deliverable dates to ensure conclusions are timely documented and delivered to the business.
  • Participate in the development of a strategy to support the growth of the business and team including prioritization of projects to align with the company's goals.
  • Participate in critical accounting projects, including representing the team in finance transformation projects.
  • Perform and enhance existing internal controls on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Work across all products to ensure disclosures adequately reflect material revenue streams of the business as of each reporting period.
  • Support revenue team on ad-hoc analysis and projects.

Requirements

  • BA / BS degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years' professional experience gained in Big 4, Public Accounting and/or relevant industry.
  • Experience with ASC 606 is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ASC 808 and 842 is a plus.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience advising and influencing teams outside of the core functions of your role.
  • Experience working in a multinational, high tech and high volume organization.
  • Experience with process improvement and SOX compliance.
  • CPA or equivalent.
