About the position

The Technical Sales Manager role is an individual contributor position focused on selling consumable laboratory products within the life sciences industry. The primary responsibility is to engage with lab managers in both new and existing accounts, driving sales growth through business development and account management. The role requires a strong scientific background and experience in field sales, with a significant emphasis on building renewable revenue streams through consistent restocking orders.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in 75% business development activities and 25% account management to drive sales growth.
  • Manage and develop sales within new and existing accounts, focusing on laboratory consumables with sales ranging from $1,000 - $5,000.
  • Manage a sales cycle from conception to close, which can take anywhere from 1 to 6+ months depending on the type of product sold.
  • Build relationships and trust with lab managers and customers, ensuring their needs are met and issues addressed.
  • Recap daily/weekly meetings thoroughly to inform strategy and updates.
  • Participate in weekly one-on-one meetings with the sales manager and bi-weekly team meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in field sales within life sciences or biotech, particularly selling scientific consumables.
  • Experience building renewable revenue streams with sales being up to $10,000, rather than a focus on large equipment sales.
  • Experience and comfortability managing existing accounts and conducting business development (cold calling) target leads.
  • Strong understanding of basic science to effectively communicate with customers.
  • Experience selling lab consumables or working with manufacturers such as Eppendorf, Thermo Fisher, Gilson, and Corning is highly desirable.
  • A track record of effective business development strategies.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
