About The Position

The Technical Service Manager will be responsible for maintaining product integrity and food safety within the plant. This role involves running the quality control area, delegating tasks, and organizing and training personnel within the quality assurance department. The manager will implement government mandates regarding quality control and food safety, maintain effective communication between government and plant officials, and monitor all relevant government regulations, programs, and policies (FSIS, USDA, FDA, etc.). Key responsibilities include keeping employees focused on HACCP and GMP procedures, tracking and communicating microbiological trends, sanitation performance, and product shelf life, and creating and writing quality control programs for plant and company-wide implementation. The role also requires adhering to specific customer requests and specifications, developing and evaluating product quality, overseeing raw material claims and receiving procedures, and evaluating the performance of sanitation and pest control contractors. The manager will prepare, implement, and monitor standard operating procedures, constantly review and update quality control programs, and manage special projects related to quality and food safety. The role requires adaptability to changing demands from government officials, plant conditions, and business objectives. Additionally, the manager will ensure all plant areas are properly sanitized, conduct department meetings, coordinate new product/process implementations, and develop/maintain programs for customer and 3rd party requirements, including leading audits and maintaining BRC certification. Monitoring and evaluating SPC programs, working with operations to ensure regulatory compliance and customer specifications, and maintaining the facility in an "audit ready" state for various audits (customer, BRC, USDA/FDA/FSIS, Organic) are also crucial aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in the quality assurance area
  • HACCP certification
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Statistical/Math background
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong Math skills
  • Ability to review and analyze large amounts of data and identify trends.
  • Knowledge, background and expertise in case ready operations is critical. Areas of knowledge must include HACCP, specification adherence to incoming raw materials, trimming, chilling, styling & packaging specs, packaging modified atmosphere characteristics, final box/package configuration and shelf-life.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in Animal Science, Meat Science, Food Science or related science discipline preferred
  • College experience beneficial to develop writing skills and animal science knowledge
  • Retail Ready/Case Ready experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain product integrity and food safety within the plant

  • Develop and organize different means of evaluating product quality and then develop better ways to produce products
  • Oversee all raw material claims and product/ingredient receiving procedures
  • Evaluate sanitation and pest & rodent contractor’s performance to ensure they are completing their jobs in a safe, effective and professional manner
  • Prepare, implement and monitor standard operating procedures for each production area in the plant
  • Constantly review and update product quality control programs
  • Manage special projects regarding quality and food safety for the plant
  • Work tasks fluctuate demanding on the direction of government officials, plant conditions, and business objectives
  • Responsible for ensuring that all areas of the plant are properly sanitized
  • Conduct department meetings on a regular basis
  • Coordinate efforts implementing new products/process with respective parties (i.e. engineering, production, management, maintenance)
  • Develop, maintain and implement any programs relating to customer, or 3rd party requirements, to include leading audits and maintenance of BRC certification
  • Monitor, track and evaluate all SPC programs mandated relative to customer requirements or plant performance
  • Work closely with operations to ensure regulatory compliance, customer specifications and performance metrics are maintained
  • Responsible for maintaining the facility “audit ready” at any given time, in more specific terms: customer audits, BRC, USDA/FDA/FSIS and Organic audit.
