About the position

Clean Harbors in Rancho Dominguez, CA is seeking a Technical Services Project Manager to assist in growing the revenues and profitability in defined business lines. The role involves scoping out, inventorying, profiling, securing approvals, drafting and reviewing safety plans, and assessing labor and equipment resources for opportunities that require more complex management and technical customer interaction. The Technical Services Project Manager will manage a team responsible for executing projects to ensure they are completed safely, on budget, and exceed customer expectations. This position emphasizes the importance of health and safety, which is the company's top priority, and focuses on maintaining sustainability and cleaning the Earth. The Technical Services Project Manager will prepare quotes or bids, ensuring all costs are recognized and that the quoted amounts meet required margins. They will lead the team executing the involved work, ensuring it is done efficiently and safely. The manager will work closely with coordinators to schedule work and ensure the availability of manpower and equipment resources. Additionally, they will meet with customers to participate in job walks to understand the scope of work and any issues that may impact costs and execution. The role also includes preparing profiles for both internal and external (third-party) management of materials found in the scope of work, securing appropriate approvals, and following up on jobs with the operational team and customers to ensure satisfactory completion, issue resolution, invoicing, and collection of payments. Other duties may be assigned as needed by management to meet the needs of the Clean Harbors business.

Responsibilities

  • Scope out, inventory, profile, and secure approvals for projects.
  • Draft and review safety plans for projects.
  • Assess labor and equipment resources for complex management and technical customer interaction.
  • Manage the team responsible for executing projects to ensure safety and budget compliance.
  • Prepare quotes or bids ensuring all costs are recognized and margins are met.
  • Lead the execution of work efficiently and safely.
  • Coordinate with team members to schedule work and ensure resource availability.
  • Meet with customers to understand project scope and address potential issues.
  • Prepare internal and external profiles for material management in projects.
  • Secure necessary approvals for project execution.
  • Follow up on job completion with operational teams and customers to ensure satisfaction and resolve issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response Training (40 Hour Hazwoper).
  • OSHA certification.
  • Supervisory experience in a technical or scientific environment.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage a team of chemists/technicians.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of the WIN System.
  • Understanding of chemical compatibilities and lab packing procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in environmental science or related fields in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and disposal.
  • Experience working with University of California campuses.
