About The Position

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP is seeking a Patent Agent or Technical Specialist to join their Intellectual Property Practice Group. This role involves preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), with a focus on life sciences. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and requires collaboration with partners in the practice group to provide high-quality legal services to clients.

Requirements

• An advanced degree (master's or PhD) in a biological field such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, or Biomedical Engineering
• At least one year of experience as a practicing patent agent in the field of life sciences or two years of professional experience in life sciences
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Excellent writing and research abilities
• Proficiency in written and verbal communication
• Strong organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Preparing, filing and prosecuting patent applications before the US Patent and Trademark Office
• Performing prior art searches and analysis
• Conducting patentability analysis
• Engaging in IP due diligence
• Participating in practice development activities to build and maintain client relationships
• Preparing substantive client correspondence
• Instructing local counsel for foreign filings and Office Actions
• Assisting in patent clearance studies and other patent-related opinion projects
• Applying advanced concepts in life sciences, particularly in molecular biology, cell biology, and/or biochemistry
• Studying and analyzing scientific or technical documents to assess patentability, novelty, and inventiveness
• Converting prior provisional applications into utility applications
• Converting foreign filed applications into U.S. applications
• Converting U.S. applications into foreign applications
