About the position

As the Technical Specialist - Transmissions at Rolls-Royce, you will serve as a key technical expert within the organization, providing authoritative advice and support in mechanical engineering, particularly in the area of aerospace gas turbine mechanical components. Your role will involve generating business benefits through the application of specialized technical knowledge, resolving current problems, and supporting the development of other technical specialists. You will be recognized as a thought leader and will lead capability development projects while ensuring best practices are defined and adopted across the team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of the strategy with respect to their area of specialty.
  • Lead the definition of capability projects including capturing requirements, creating proposals, achieving stakeholder approval, acquiring funding, and aligning partner support.
  • Support the development and application of new capabilities; lead capability development projects.
  • Lead the resolution of new and emerging technical, compliance, and business problems using analytical processes and professional judgement.
  • Proactively access internal and external networks of fellow specialists to further the understanding of the specialist subject; support the implementation of strategic collaborative relationships.
  • Provide technical direction to peers and more junior professionals, and technical leadership to teams and projects within their specialty.
  • Support the definition of skill and professional knowledge within their area of specialty; identify, coordinate and deliver training; support the development of other specialists; provide active mentoring.
  • Ensure appropriate policies, standards, and best practices are defined, shared, and adopted.
  • Lead the sharing of Best Practice; represent the area as an authority in their defined subject; provide concise justification for decisions; record and capture salient information in reports and systems.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in mechanical engineering with 7+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, OR
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering with 3+ years of experience in engineering design, OR
  • JD/PhD in mechanical engineering.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience in the function, operation, design, analysis, and verification of aerospace gas turbine mechanical components and/or systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in progressing designs/changes through a gated review process.
  • Expertise in aerospace power transmission components, including gears, rolling element bearings, shafts, and seals.
  • Expertise in Siemens NX, Siemens Teamcenter, Microsoft Excel.
  • Expertise in dimensional tolerance stack-ups and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Desire to lead, coach, and mentor less experienced engineers.
