About the position

The Technical Support Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for technology support within University Housing and Dining (UHD). This role focuses on providing desktop support and audio-visual assistance, ensuring that technology issues are resolved efficiently to support the daily operations of UHD. The specialist is responsible for maintaining and upgrading hardware, software, and audio-visual equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely computer desktop and technology support to UHD end-users.
  • Understand technology issues by listening, asking follow-up questions, and taking detailed notes.
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Operate and test the functionality of all AV and integrated conference rooms.
  • Perform routine testing and problem diagnosis for projectors, microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and displays.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and resolve problems or identify resolutions to appropriate vendors or manufacturers.
  • Install, configure, repair, maintain, and upgrade Windows/Mac hardware and related equipment.
  • Assist with IT inventory and participate in UHD initiatives.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings and perform special projects and tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Degree / GED.
  • Knowledge of computer and peripheral operations, installation, directory services, remote access tools, and troubleshooting.
  • Work experience in IT customer service and/or help desk environment.
  • Experience installing and supporting hardware, software, and networked systems in a multi-protocol environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing a Citrix Virtual Desktop Environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly.
  • Experience supporting systems remotely.
  • Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and prioritize multiple projects.
