About the position

The Technical Training Officer for Engineering, Signals and Communications (S&C) at CN is responsible for delivering comprehensive training programs for S&C employees, including the Apprenticeship Training Program and Communication Technician Programs. This role involves mentoring, coaching, and qualifying employees on various S&C techniques, while also maintaining training facilities and equipment. The position emphasizes a safety-focused culture and aims to ensure that employees are well-trained and equipped to perform their roles effectively.

Responsibilities

• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the creation and update of training materials
• Provide training to employees through classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, and training exercises
• Maintain an understanding of how to practically apply skills related to S&C equipment
• Evaluate trainees' ability to demonstrate task proficiency
• Administer and grade exams
• Complete performance and qualifying documents and ensure all training events are collected in the Learning Management System (LMS)
• Carry out other engineering-related training as needed
• Assess functionality of laboratory equipment prior to training
• Repair all malfunctioning laboratory equipment
• Collaborate with Managers and Senior Managers to resolve and identify functional training needs
• Develop training delivery plan and establish training delivery schedule

Requirements

• 5 to 10 years of experience in Signals & Communications
• Experience as a Signal or Communication Supervisor is an asset
• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
• Qualified as an S&C Maintainer or Communication Technician
• Valid Driver's License
• Additional education in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics is an asset
• Strong knowledge of CN's S&C department and field operations
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Advanced communication skills in English (written and verbal)
• Knowledge of Systems Applications and Products (SAP) and Signals & Communications Inspection System (SCIS)
• Proficient in Learning Management Systems (LMS)
