About the position

We are seeking a Technical Writer 2 in our Hanover, MD office to help support the customer's Field Engineering Office for over 80 customer locations worldwide by providing unique solutions for an ever-changing mission environment. The team provides support in the form of RF Engineering, signals analysis, and software engineering for 12 different efforts and applications. The Technical Writer will be responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documents including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation. This role requires a strong understanding of technical writing principles and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively. The Technical Writer will write and edit technical documentation for all of the project's hardware and software, which includes installation, configuration, and how-to documentation. Additionally, the writer will create code documentation for software, produce implementation guides and end-user guides for capabilities, and provide field, data definition, and data flow documentation. The role also involves formatting technical publications from pamphlets, technical drawings, and consultations with technical personnel and other available resources. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to gathering technical information and preparing written text, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. This position requires collaboration with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials, and the ability to work on all phases of documentation. The Technical Writer will also prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences, coordinating the layout and design of documents to ensure clarity and professionalism. Maintaining a current internal documentation library is also a key responsibility, along with using multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications.
  • Gathers technical information and prepares written text.
  • Maintains a current internal documentation library.
  • Uses multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Works with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials.
  • Prepares reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences.
  • Coordinates layout and design of documents.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional Technical Writing experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree for a total of ten (10) years.
  • Six (6) years' experience as a Technical Writer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience with Imaging Software (such as Corel Draw, Photoshop, or Paint Shop Pro).
  • Understanding of basic grammar concepts and responsible for writing technical copy for various types of documents.
