About The Position

The Technical Writer 3 position is responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of technical documents including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation. The role involves writing and editing technical documentation for all of the projects' hardware and software, including installation, configuration, and how-to documentation. The Technical Writer will create code documentation for software, produce implementation guides and end-user guides for capabilities, and provide field, data definition, and data flow documentation. The position also requires maintaining a current internal documentation library and using multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. The Technical Writer will work with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials, prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences, and coordinate the layout and design of documents. Additionally, the role involves researching highly technical subject matter and producing defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years experience as a Technical Writer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • A Master's degree in a technical or business discipline may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, four (4) years of additional Technical Writer experience may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents.
  • Write and edit technical documentation for hardware and software.
  • Create code documentation and produce implementation guides.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation.
  • Gather technical information and prepare written text.
  • Maintain a current internal documentation library.
  • Use word processing and presentation tools.
  • Work with developers to produce quality documentation.
  • Understand basic concepts and write technical copy.
  • Prepare reports, responses, and briefings.
  • Coordinate layout and design of documents.
  • Research technical subject matter and organize information.
  • Produce defense acquisition documentation and user manuals.
  • Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings.
  • Produce technical documentation for Cryptologic programs.
  • Create, update, and monitor SharePoint and Confluence.
  • Provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing.
  • Act as project leader for complex documentation projects.
