About the position

Amentum is seeking several Senior Technical Writers/Editors to support the Cyber Security & Information Assurance (CSIA) Support Services office at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, and Ft Belvoir, VA. This role is crucial in providing comprehensive programmatic and business management services, engineering support, field engineering, laboratory, logistics, and acquisition/administrative support services to enhance the capabilities of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) and its associated managers and customers. The successful candidate will work closely with government project leads to ensure that documentation meets the highest standards of quality and compliance with client requirements. In this position, the Senior Technical Writer/Editor will lead a team of writers responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining a variety of user documentation, including training guides, user manuals, instruction manuals, and technical manuals. The role requires a strong focus on producing documentation that adheres to industry standards while also being accessible to a diverse audience, including non-technical users and system administrators. The candidate will be responsible for preparing documentation that meets client specifications, reviewing draft materials, and providing constructive feedback to team members to ensure clarity and fluency in all training documentation. The Senior Technical Writer/Editor will also be tasked with creating state-of-the-art technical documents, such as API Developer Guides and product documentation, and will utilize user feedback to enhance the usability of these documents. This position requires effective communication with technical personnel, including software developers and product managers, to ensure that all documentation accurately reflects the technical aspects of the products and services being offered. The candidate will analyze training metrics and customer feedback to align documentation efforts with future training investments, ensuring that all materials are relevant and effective.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of writers to create, edit, and maintain user documentation including training guides, user manuals, and technical manuals.
  • Provides overall documentation support to management and technical staff within the CSIA Community.
  • Prepares documentation by applying industry and client standards, establishing proper formats, and reviewing draft materials.
  • Creates, implements, and tracks production of designed documents.
  • Communicates effectively with technical personnel to write and maintain high-quality documentation.
  • Plans, writes, edits, and revises technical information and documents, including user manuals and product specifications.
  • Assesses and evaluates diverse audiences to tailor documentation accordingly.
  • Creates technical documents such as API Developer Guides and product documentation.
  • Develops client aids like online demos, videos, and educational guidelines.
  • Transforms complex documentation into simple concepts for end-users.
  • Studies user feedback to enhance documentation usability.
  • Works as an editor to ensure fluency in training documentation throughout the team.
  • Analyzes training metrics and customer feedback to inform future training investments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in editing narrative and graphical products for defense and commercial companies.
  • Experience using various word processing, spreadsheet, and graphical-art applications to produce technical documentation.
  • Proven ability to create and deliver complex system/software developmental documentation packages.
  • Extensive experience with Military Standards such as MIL-HDBK-310, MIL-STD-882, and others.
  • Must have an Active TOP SECRET US Government Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the Army CIO/G6 programmatic requirement.
  • Demonstrated ability in Microsoft systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Past experience working in C5ISR and CSIA.
