The selected candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of our technical documents, which may include both classified and unclassified materials. This position requires a keen eye for detail and a strong command of the English language, as the primary responsibility will be to proofread contractor-produced documents for grammatical correctness and adherence to established style guides. In addition to proofreading, the Technical Writer/Editor will manage the organization’s document library, which involves writing abstracts for both historical and new documents, updating the document archive database, and scanning hard-copy documents. The role also includes reviewing and revising content for accuracy and quality, collaborating with a creative team of analysts, engineers, and production staff to ensure timely publication of content, and maintaining a production library of electronic and hard-copy documents across multiple classified systems. Staying updated on the latest content trends and best practices is essential, as is the ability to compile and update style guides as necessary. The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in desktop publishing software, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A Top Secret Security Clearance with active SCI is required for this position, reflecting the sensitive nature of the work involved. Responsibilities

  • Proofread contractor-produced technical documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Ensure documents comply with required style guides.
  • Manage the organization's document library, including writing abstracts and updating the document archive database.
  • Scan historical hard-copy documents and identify locations of missing documents.
  • Review and revise content for accuracy and quality, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Collaborate with analysts, engineers, technical editors, and production teams to ensure timely publication of content.
  • Ensure correct tone, voice, clarity, flow, and structure of content.
  • Compile and update style guides as required.
  • Manage and maintain a Production Library of electronic and hard copy documents across multiple classified systems.

Requirements

  • 3 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; 1 year relevant experience with a Master's in a related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in the English language.
  • Proficiency with desktop publishing software such as Adobe products and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to manage time and effort across multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Top Secret Security Clearance with active SCI.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in proofing others' work and providing constructive feedback.
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance with active SCI.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or English.
  • Experience with Government writing focused on a Senior-Leader audience.
  • Proficiency with applying principles of style guides, such as the Government Publishing Office (GPO) and Department of Defense (DoD) Issuance Style Guide.
  • Experience in DoD Knowledge Management activities.
