About the position

The Technical Writer-Editor position within the Department of Defense is a critical role that involves the review and interpretation of technical documentation and source data, such as engineering drawings and technical data packages. The primary responsibility is to identify impacts to technical manuals, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. This position requires the management and development of various technical documents, including Technical Manuals (TMs), Technical Bulletins, Modification Work Orders (MWOs), and Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs). In addition to document management, the role involves performing hands-on and deskside verification of technical manuals to ensure compliance with established standards. The Technical Writer-Editor will also serve as a logistics focal point, directing and developing logistics policies and processes for major weapon systems acquisitions. This includes engaging in initiatives and programs that support logistics operations, which are essential for the successful deployment and maintenance of complex military systems. The position requires a strong understanding of technical writing and editing, as well as the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering and logistics teams to ensure that all technical documentation meets the needs of the end-users and complies with regulatory requirements. This role is vital for maintaining the integrity of technical information that supports military operations.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret technical documentation and source data to identify impacts to technical manuals.
  • Manage development and/or creation of Technical Manuals (TMs), Technical Bulletins, Modification Work Orders (MWOs), and Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs).
  • Perform hands-on and deskside verification of technical manuals (TMs, Technical Bulletins, MWOs, and DMWRs).
  • Serve as a Logistics focal point engaged in directing, developing, and/or implementing logistics policies, processes, initiatives and/or programs for major weapon systems acquisitions.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • One year of specialized experience in writing and/or editing publications related to weapons systems, components, armaments, or vehicle systems.
  • Experience in Technical Manual verification of publications and managing technical and equipment publications.
  • Intermediate Level I Acquisition Corps certification in the acquisition career field of Life Cycle Logistics within 36 months upon entering into this position.
