About the position

As a Technical Writer-Editor at the Department of Health and Human Services, you will play a crucial role in the production of scientific documents and other technical materials that support the mission of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Your primary responsibilities will include writing and editing a variety of documents, ensuring that they are clear, accurate, and tailored to the intended audience. You will analyze the subject matter and audience to plan effective presentations of materials, and you will perform final reviews to ensure technical accuracy, style, organization, and editorial quality before release. Additionally, you will provide guidance and direction regarding publications in support of scientific and medical subject matter areas, which may include fields such as the natural or social sciences. This position is vital to maintaining the high standards of communication within the CDC, as it directly impacts how scientific information is disseminated to the public and other stakeholders. You will collaborate with scientists and other professionals to ensure that the materials produced meet the rigorous standards expected in public health communication. Responsibilities

  • Writing and/or editing scientific documents and other general or technical materials.
  • Analyzing the subject matter and audience to plan clear and accurate presentation of materials.
  • Performing final review of materials for technical accuracy, style, proper organization, emphasis, and editorial aspects before release.
  • Providing guidance and direction regarding publications in support of scientific/medical subject-matter areas.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which includes experience in reviewing and editing scientific documents, manuscripts, or presentations.
  • A college or university degree from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with public health or health promotion materials.
