About the position

The Technical Writer/Editor at Louisiana State University plays a crucial role in providing substantive editing support for competitive grant proposals. This position is responsible for enhancing the development of proposals and research-related activities, ensuring compliance with sponsor requirements, and delivering high-quality documents for submission. The role involves collaboration with university faculty and includes training and outreach components to improve proposal development skills across the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a principal editor for selected, high-priority, complex, multi-disciplinary research proposals and related documents.
  • Provide technical writing and editing assistance to University faculty in the development of grant proposals, ensuring all sponsor requirements and competitive criteria are met.
  • Provide ad hoc editing for various other ORED initiatives.
  • Develop, collect, and maintain ancillary materials to aid the university and ORED.
  • Develop and execute workshops and presentations on various aspects of proposal development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in technical writing or editing.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to learn new software/programs quickly (e.g., InfoReady, Overleaf, Moodle).

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D and five (5) years of experience in a related field.
  • Strong familiarity with scientific language/concepts.
