About the position

The Technical Writer-Editor position at the Department of Homeland Security involves supporting the writing, briefing, and report development efforts of the Intelligence & Analysis organizations. The role is crucial in ensuring the clarity and accuracy of written intelligence products, coordinating daily intelligence briefings, and liaising with various organizations to enhance the quality of intelligence documentation while adhering to security protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Support the writing, briefing, and report development efforts of Intelligence & Analysis organizations.
  • Contribute to style guides, production standard operating procedures, and associated training for employees and managers.
  • Rework draft publications to ensure clear, concise, and accurate written intelligence products.
  • Coordinate the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator's Daily Intelligence Briefing by contributing to the editing, formatting, and distribution of all associated intelligence products and reports.
  • Conduct outreach with other organizations, including attending regular secure video teleconferences and meetings to review intelligence products and production processes.
  • Serve as a liaison to interagency or intergovernmental teams addressing methods for writing and editing complex concepts using sensitive security information.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
  • Minimum age of 18 at the time of application.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • One year of specialized experience at the SV-H or GS-12 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.
  • Technical writing experience drafting intelligence community editorial policies and practices.
  • Experience utilizing writing grammar practices, including the development and maintenance of Style Guides.
  • Experience writing classification assignments and handling sensitive information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the Intelligence Community Directives.
  • Familiarity with Chicago Style Manuals.
