About the position

The Tesla Energy Technical Content team is seeking a senior-level Technical Writer to create and manage a variety of technical documentation for Energy Storage, Charging, and Solar products. This role involves hands-on interaction with hardware and software to develop comprehensive documentation that supports key stakeholders and enhances the user experience with Tesla's innovative Energy products. The position is full-time and based in Hayward, CA.

Responsibilities

• Write, edit, validate, and publish comprehensive documents such as installation manuals, service manuals, datasheets, and commissioning guides.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts including Engineers, Technicians, and Product Managers to ensure content accuracy and alignment on projects.
• Project-manage multiple documentation initiatives concurrently, ensuring priorities are addressed and standard processes are followed.
• Track product iterations and improvements globally to ensure timely documentation of region-specific information.
• Interact directly with hardware and software products to gain a deeper understanding for effective content creation.
• Manage document translations to support worldwide product deployment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of technical writing experience in a high-tech environment or equivalent experience.
• Experience writing step-by-step procedures, how-to user guides, and instructional content.
• Technical experience in roles such as Technician or Engineer is beneficial.
• Proactive planning for future documentation changes and problem-solving.
• Proficiency with authoring and content creation tools (e.g., Word, InDesign, Oxygen XML Editor, FrameMaker, Visio).
• Experience in a structured authoring environment (e.g., DITA/XML, HTML).
• Ability to create visual content that accompanies text, including photography and CAD model visualizations.
