About the position

KMS Solutions, LLC is seeking a Technical Writer I to join our team in Norfolk, VA. As a technical management and solutions company specializing in engineering, analysis, and cybersecurity, we have been supporting the Department of Defense and other critical programs since our founding in 2005. The Technical Writer I will play a vital role in supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Dam Neck Activity (NSWCDD DNA) by providing documentation support for Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, Safety, Test and Evaluation, and Readiness for assigned systems. This position involves developing and maintaining software operator/user manuals and system administrator documentation, ensuring that all technical documentation is clear, concise, and accessible to users. In this role, the Technical Writer I will be responsible for creating and publishing technical documentation and manuals, collecting and interpreting technical data, and coordinating the layout for publication. The work will involve contributing to moderately complex aspects of projects, requiring both independent and collaborative efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing, particularly in the context of military practices, and will be able to effectively communicate complex technical information to a variety of audiences. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities and requires a Secret Security Clearance to be held and maintained. The work environment is a professional office setting, where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers will be utilized. The typical workday is eight hours long, with some flexibility in hours allowed, provided there is concurrence from the supervisor. Employees must be available during core work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and are expected to account for their hours to maintain full-time status. This position allows for up to 15% telework and may require up to 10% travel.

Requirements

  • High School or GED Diploma required.
  • Three (3) years of full-time professional experience writing operational/maintenance/installation data documentation using standard military practices.
  • Ability to hold and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
