About the position

We are seeking a talented technical professional with excellent communication and authoring skills to plan for, design, develop, and publish Technical Documentation, including but not limited to functional, design, and technical specifications, development coding standards and guides, API documents, architecture specifications, and diagrams. The Technical Writer is a contract position for the IT Security team. In this role, you will gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources such as product demonstrations, project tracking systems, interviews, emails, or phone calls to document new or changing product functionality. You will manage documentation projects effectively to meet deadlines and quality standards, proactively escalating project issues, roadblocks, and scope changes as they occur. Collaboration with Enterprise Products subject matter experts (SMEs) and other internal groups will be essential to develop and maintain documentation that meets established quality metrics. Your responsibilities will include writing, formatting, editing, reviewing, and proofreading procedural and technical information for both technical and non-technical users. You will also be tasked with updating existing procedural or technical documents to improve organization and readability for technical audiences, providing editing support for all document types as requested, and maintaining a library of application documentation for internal and/or external use. Additionally, you will research changes to documentation and update existing documents as required, solicit feedback for measuring documentation effectiveness, and perform peer reviews to ensure documentation is accurate, relevant, concise, easy to use, and conforms to style guides and writing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing product functionality.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing and editing for IT departments in the oil and gas industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and usage.
  • Adhere to standard technical communication processes.
  • Apply the most appropriate technology for the documentation type.
  • Understand information gathering, analysis, design, verification, and management practices and apply them effectively.
  • Arrange and classify multiple pieces of information effectively.
  • Restructure information for a better approach to problems or tasks.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, and break down complex information into accessible concepts appropriate to the audience.
  • Talk with individuals and groups about their needs and ask probing questions to gather pertinent content.
  • Use active listening techniques to gather information and delve deeper for more information.
  • Work with new information to grasp its implications.
  • Clearly and concisely convey information to others for effective communication.
  • Negotiate technical and end-user documentation priorities and resolve conflicts among project stakeholders.
  • Represent information in graphical forms that augment textual representations.
