About the position

The Technical Writer II position at Scientific Research Corporation involves supporting the delivery of training and instructional products utilized in classroom instruction, distance learning media, and computer-based training. The role requires participation in script writing, video and still photo events, and the production of technical documentation. The Technical Writer will be responsible for writing plans and documents, ensuring the format of all deliverable documents is consistent and meets the required standards. This includes reviewing and updating technical publications as required by the customer, as well as researching, writing, editing, and proofreading technical data for use in various documents such as manuals, procedures, and plans. In this role, the Technical Writer will prepare, review, revise, and maintain all program technical documents, which encompass system integration, system operations, testing, and user documentation. The position requires interaction with systems to understand their functions, which is essential for developing accurate technical documentation. The Technical Writer will fetch technical data from engineers, software integrators, and technicians to create various documents, briefings, memorandums, white papers, and point papers. Ensuring that all technical documentation is accurate, complete, and adheres to government specifications and quality standards is a critical aspect of this role. Additionally, the Technical Writer will establish style guidelines and standards for program texts and illustrations, ensuring consistency across different documents. A thorough review of all documentation prior to delivery to the customer is required, focusing on grammar, style, formatting, accuracy, and overall quality. This position is crucial in maintaining the high standards expected in technical documentation within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Supports efforts related to the delivery of training and instructional products used in classroom instruction, distance learning media, and computer-based training.
  • Participates in script writing, video and still photo events, and technical documentation production efforts.
  • Writes plans and documents, ensuring the format of all deliverable documents is consistent and meets required standards.
  • Reviews and updates technical publications as required by the customer.
  • Researches, writes, edits, and proofreads technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures, and plans.
  • Prepares, reviews, revises, and maintains all program technical documents including system integration, system operations, testing, and user documentation.
  • Interacts with systems to understand system functions to properly develop all technical documentation.
  • Fetches technical data from engineers, software integrators, and technicians to develop various documents, briefings, memorandums, white papers, and point papers.
  • Ensures technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
  • Establishes style guidelines and standards for program texts and illustrations, ensuring consistency across different documents.
  • Reviews all documentation prior to delivery to the customer and corrects for grammar, style, formatting, accuracy, and overall quality.

Requirements

  • Secret Clearance
  • Experience writing a variety of technical documents
  • Experience generating documents with Word styles and using proper formatting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Ability to interact with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • BS with a technical degree
  • Six (6) years of experience in the physical sciences or engineering fields, including writing/editing technical documentation, procedures, and guidelines for C4ISR systems or equipment
  • Three (3) years of specialized experience writing and editing technical or training documents such as system online documentation, training plans, test and evaluation documents, integrated logistics support, and communications or environmental.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience creating and/or modifying documentation under a government contract to include technical publications and test procedures
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and schematics to provide written descriptions of processes, systems, networks, etc.
  • Understanding of systems engineering and associated documentation
  • Prior experience in the government contracting field
  • Experience with CMPRO and Visio
