About the position

Amentum is seeking a cleared Technical Writer III to support an upcoming opportunity in Annapolis Junction, MD. This position is contingent upon contract award. The Technical Writer will be responsible for preparing and maintaining a variety of operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications. The role requires a strong understanding of basic grammar concepts and the ability to write technical copy for various types of documents. The Technical Writer will gather technical information and prepare written text, ensuring that all documentation is clear and comprehensible to a wide audience. The Technical Writer will maintain a current internal documentation library and utilize multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. Collaboration with developers is essential to produce quality documentation and training materials. The writer will work on all phases of documentation, preparing reports, responses, and briefings targeted to diverse audiences. The role also involves coordinating the layout and design of documents, researching highly technical subject matter, and organizing information from multiple sources. Under general direction, the Technical Writer will apply concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings and technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject matter experts, and other available sources. The position requires the production of defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems. The writer will interpret engineering and maintenance drawings and operational procedures to blend large quantities of computer-related information into coherent documentation. The Technical Writer will also provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing throughout all phases of acquisition and technical documentation for the Program, Project, or Contract. The role may involve acting as a project leader for projects with complex or voluminous documentation and providing or coordinating special documentation services as required. Additionally, the Technical Writer will review work products of others for compliance with established standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications.

Requirements

  • Must possess a U.S government Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility and a polygraph (TS/SCI w/ polygraph).
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required (Four (4) years of additional technical writing experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree).
  • Minimum eight (8) years experience as a Technical Writer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required (A Master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience).
