About the position

Amentum is seeking a cleared Technical Writer to support an upcoming opportunity in Annapolis Junction, MD. This position is contingent upon contract award. The Technical Writer will be responsible for preparing and maintaining a variety of operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications. The role requires a strong understanding of basic grammar concepts and the ability to write technical copy for various types of documents. The Technical Writer will gather technical information and prepare written text while maintaining a current internal documentation library. The successful candidate will utilize multiple word processing and presentation tools, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, to produce quality documentation and training materials. They will work closely with developers throughout all phases of documentation, ensuring that the technical copy is clear and comprehensible to a wide audience. This includes preparing reports, responses, and briefings targeted to diverse audiences, as well as coordinating the layout and design of documents. Additionally, the Technical Writer will research highly technical subject matter, organize information from multiple sources, and express this information in written form. Under general direction, they will apply concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings and technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject matter experts, and other available sources. The role also involves producing defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems. The Technical Writer will interpret engineering and maintenance drawings and operational procedures to blend large quantities of computer-related information into coherent documentation. The position requires the ability to work independently, preparing and maintaining highly complex systems, programming, and operations documentation, procedures, and methods. The Technical Writer may act as a project leader for projects with complex or voluminous documentation and may provide or coordinate special documentation services as required. They will also review the work products of others for compliance with established standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, manuals, and technical publications.
  • Gather technical information and prepare written text.
  • Maintain a current internal documentation library.
  • Use multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Work with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials.
  • Prepare reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences.
  • Coordinate layout and design of documents.
  • Research highly technical subject matter and organize information from multiple sources.
  • Express technical information in written form that is comprehensible to a wide audience.
  • Write technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity.
  • Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems.
  • Interpret engineering and maintenance drawings and operational procedures.
  • Produce technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects developing analytic tradecraft methodologies.
  • Apply technical manual standard NSA DS-89 to work products.
  • Provide expert oversight of technical writing and editing to all phases of acquisition and technical documentation for the Program, Project, or Contract.
  • Act as project leader for projects with complex or voluminous documentation.
  • Review work products of others for compliance.

Requirements

  • Must possess a U.S government Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility and a polygraph (TS/SCI w/ polygraph).
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required (Four (4) years of additional technical writing experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree).
  • Minimum eight (8) years experience as a Technical Writer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required (A Master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience).
