About the position

Belcan is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer III to join our team in the Seattle/Georgetown area. This role will develop operator and maintenance manuals for rapidly developing drone technology. The ideal candidate will have a passion for translating complex technical concepts into clear concise content, ensuring operators and technicians can efficiently and safely perform their duties. This is a hybrid role requiring weekly on-site collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Create, manage, and update a library of technical documentation, including flight operations manuals, maintenance manuals, and internal policy manuals.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, operations leaders, and subject matter experts to ensure documentation accuracy and usability.
  • Develop and implement content standards, workflows, and best practices for documentation processes, ensuring consistency and traceability across all materials.
  • Translate technical specifications into operator-focused content, emphasizing clarity and usability for non-technical audiences.
  • Review and incorporate feedback from users to improve documentation and support materials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Aviation, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of technical writing experience, ideally writing FAA-regulated manuals.
  • Proven expertise in creating operator-focused documentation and guides for complex machinery or equipment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for technical documentation and an ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MadCap Flare or HTML and CSS.
  • Proficiency with Git and source control workflows.
  • Ability to work on-site in Seattle on a weekly basis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in aviation operations or familiarity with FAA regulations and standards.
  • Web development experience building or maintaining internal content libraries, especially with native AWS tools.
  • Experience integrating content libraries with AI Large Language Models.
  • Working knowledge of content management systems and documentation processes for large-scale enterprise projects.
  • Prior experience collaborating with engineers and technical teams.
