About the position

The Technical Writer will be responsible for developing comprehensive technical documentation related to Aviation Command and Control projects. This role requires collaboration within a team environment, working closely with engineers, engineering technicians, and other technical writers to ensure the accuracy and clarity of the documentation produced. The Technical Writer will coordinate the production of technical documents with contractor and Government project engineers and management, ensuring that all materials meet the required standards and deadlines. In this position, the Technical Writer will incorporate various elements such as AutoCAD drawings, digital photographs, and scanned images into Microsoft Word documents. This requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to present complex information in a clear and accessible manner. The Technical Writer will also be tasked with performing independent technical research as needed, engaging with various sources to gather the necessary information to complete the technical documents. Additionally, the Technical Writer will be responsible for tracking the review drafts of technical documents and overseeing the final production process to ensure compliance with project deadlines. Participation in technical document in-progress review (IPR) meetings is also a key responsibility, allowing for ongoing feedback and collaboration with team members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical documentation on Aviation Command and Control projects.
  • Coordinate the production of technical documents with contractor and Government project engineers and management.
  • Incorporate AutoCAD drawings, digital photographs, and scanned pictures into Microsoft Word documents.
  • Perform independent technical research as required.
  • Communicate with various sources to complete the technical document.
  • Track the technical document review drafts and oversee the final production of the technical documents.
  • Attend technical document in-progress review (IPR) meetings.

Requirements

  • 2 to 15 years of experience in Aviation Command and Control or related field.
  • Experience in writing/editing technical documentation, procedures, and guidelines for C5ISR systems or equipment.
  • Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style for technical writing.
  • Bachelor's degree in technical writing, journalism, communications, or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) is strongly preferred.
  • Active security clearance is preferred but not required.
