About the position

The Technical Writer / Process Documentation Specialist at J.M. Fabrication Company, LLC is responsible for documenting existing processes across various departments, including planning, sales, shipping, and invoicing. This role requires collaboration with subject matter experts to create comprehensive documentation and flowcharts that accurately represent workflows, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and promoting process optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with SMEs across departments to understand and document current processes.
  • Conduct workflow analysis and process mapping to identify efficiencies.
  • Develop clear, concise, and accurate documentation of procedures and workflows.
  • Create standard operating procedures (SOPs), manuals, guides, training materials, and other instructional content.
  • Develop visual aids such as flowcharts, diagrams, and process maps using tools like Microsoft Visio or Lucidchart.
  • Manage documentation within a Content Management System (CMS) to ensure accessibility and version control.
  • Ensure all documentation meets regulatory compliance and aligns with ISO standards.
  • Incorporate Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies into documentation practices.
  • Review and edit existing documents to improve clarity, consistency, and completeness.
  • Facilitate meetings and workshops with cross-functional teams to validate and optimize documented processes.
  • Provide insights and suggestions for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Assist in change management initiatives related to process updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in technical writing, preferably within manufacturing, industrial, or fabrication sectors.
  • Proven experience in process documentation, workflow analysis, and creating procedural documentation.
  • Familiarity with industrial processes and fabrication industry terminology.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and diagramming software (Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart).
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) is a plus.
  • Strong ability to translate technical information into clear, concise documentation.
  • Excellent interviewing and interpersonal skills to effectively gather information from SMEs.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies is a plus.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance and experience with ISO standards documentation.
