About the position

The Technical Writer (Tax Law) position involves researching, drafting, and revising materials related to tax law for various audiences. The role requires collaboration with technical analysts and subject matter specialists to ensure clarity and compliance with agency policies. This position is temporary, with the potential for extension or permanent placement, and is part of the IRS's Taxpayer Services Division.

Responsibilities

• Research and revise existing materials for use by selected functions.
• Draft materials suitable for intended audiences based on laws, agency policies, and procedures.
• Edit materials for grammatical correctness, tone, consistency, and compliance with service policies.
• Evaluate and rewrite documents to improve clarity and quality of writing.
• Attend planning meetings to provide information on procedures and forms.
• Consult with analysts to plan and advise on content and service policy before publication.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service, including experience presenting technical information in writing and knowledge of tax law and related programs.
• Master's or equivalent graduate degree in a relevant field with at least 15 semester hours in appropriate scientific, technical, or social science fields, including tax law.
• Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a graduate degree in a relevant field.
• Combination of experience and education that meets the requirements.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with government publications rules and regulations.
• Familiarity with Accounts phones and adjustments, Taxpayer Relations, and Identity Theft Victims Assistance (IDTVA).
