About the position

The Technical Writer will provide direct support for the Office of the Secretary, assisting the Information Technology team on various large-scale projects. This full-time position requires 100% onsite presence in Washington DC and involves creating and editing a wide range of technical documentation and training materials. The role emphasizes strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex concepts into accessible content.

Responsibilities

  • Assist OSEC's Information Technology team on large-scale projects.
  • Create and edit training, promotional, professional, and technical content.
  • Prepare and edit technical guidance, best practices, and operational manuals.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and technical contributors to produce content.
  • Produce project documentation and apply style guides for consistent presentation.
  • Proofread large technical documents for errors and appropriate tone.
  • Conduct technical research to produce content.
  • Provide general desktop support for software and hardware issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of technical writing experience.
  • At least seven years' experience producing technical documentation for multiple platforms according to software development lifecycles (SDLCs).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to use video editing and production software such as Camtasia.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge Management skills.
  • SharePoint content administration experience.
