About the position

The Technical Writer will be an integral part of an international software development team, focusing on creating and documenting innovative geospatial software solutions. This role involves collaborating with subject matter experts and developers to produce clear and concise documentation that enhances user experience and supports the software development process.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and outline product documentation, estimating the resources needed to produce it.
  • Interview subject matter experts and developers to gather information.
  • Write documents including online help, release notes, product news, and tutorials.
  • Publish and test the documentation to ensure accuracy and usability.
  • Review and edit program strings and other developer-written text for clarity and correctness.
  • Assist the delivery team in grooming user stories to ensure requirements are met by the user interface (UI).
  • Collaborate with developers on UI design and maintain consistency throughout the software.
  • Work with UI Designers to create mockups, icon concepts, and graphics for help topics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proactive team player with a mindset to engage with distributed colleagues.
  • Ability to describe complex technical concepts in clear, concise, and grammatically correct American English.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines for deliverables despite changing requirements and scope.
  • Willingness to accept and integrate edits and rewrites of deliverables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of technical writing principles, documentation management, and graphic design.
  • Experience with AuthorIT, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, SnagIt, and HTML (or equivalents).
  • Experience working within an Agile software development process.
  • Familiarity with tools like RoboHelp, Illustrator, PhotoShop, Flash, and Captivate is a plus.
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles and quality assurance is a plus.
  • Knowledge of terrestrial and GNSS surveying, construction, mapping, CAD, and 3D modeling is a plus.
