About the position

The scope of this project is to provide technical writing support for Client’s nuclear business unit. The contract technical writer will be responsible for training requirements, procedure writing and revisions, and document finalization. The resource will complete training on Client’s familiarization guide and undergo training on the procedure change process, including using associated job aids. They will manage and type procedure change requests using Microsoft Word, identify required reviews and approvals for documents being revised, make document changes based on feedback, resolve comments, and incorporate additional revisions. Finalized documents will be prepared by converting them to PDF and ensuring proper posting and accessibility for reviewers and approvers. Tools utilized include SAP, SharePoint, Adobe, and Microsoft Word.

Responsibilities

  • Review updates on ongoing projects, including comments or approvals from reviewers.
  • Prioritize tasks for the day based on due dates and procedural timelines.
  • Open the assigned PCR in the Management of Change (MOC) system and review the request details provided by the initiator.
  • Examine the major change request and associated markup documentation.
  • Create an activity in the system for the document control team to provide the editable Word document from the work-in-progress folder if not yet qualified to type.
  • Retrieve the Word document, make necessary edits based on the markup and comments, and save the updated file in the work-in-progress folder.
  • Ensure all changes have been incorporated into the document and save the updated file in draft form.
  • Convert the draft into a PDF and upload it into the designated SAP review folder.
  • Use procedural tools to identify required reviews for the revised document and assign reviews to appropriate individuals.
  • Monitor the progress of reviews in SAP and respond to inquiries from reviewers.
  • Begin resolving comments as they are submitted by reviewers.
  • Collaborate with the operations writer or other experienced team members to identify the correct reviews for specific functional area documents.
  • Review the status of all ongoing PCRs, ensuring deadlines and procedural steps are on track.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years minimum - Procedure writer background.
  • Nuclear experience would be helpful for this role.
  • Attention to Detail - Precision in reviewing, editing, and finalizing documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word - Advanced skills in editing, formatting, and document organization.
  • Prior experience managing documents through their lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with document management processes and tools (e.g., SAP and SharePoint).
  • Strong Communication Skills - Ability to communicate procedural changes and requirements effectively.
  • Technical Writing Expertise - Proven experience as a technical writer.
  • Knowledge of industry’s best practices and procedural standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proofreading skills.
  • Familiarity with Adobe for creating and editing PDFs.
  • Ability to follow structured processes.
