About the position

The Technical Writer will collaborate closely with engineers across various disciplines to gather technical information and produce comprehensive documentation. This role involves creating and maintaining regulatory documents, ensuring clarity and accuracy, and supporting fire safety products through effective documentation practices. The Technical Writer will utilize various tools to enhance the documentation lifecycle and produce visual aids to accompany technical content.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with engineers to gather technical information and develop detailed documentation.
  • Create, edit, and maintain regulatory and compliance-related documents, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Organize and consolidate 58 identified documents into cohesive units, and continue to review and improve additional documentation.
  • Ensure product documentation supports fire safety products, such as smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, and strobe lights.
  • Contribute to the overall documentation lifecycle using Madcap Flare, Madcap Central CMS, DITA-based tools, and other technical writing tools.
  • Produce line art, diagrams, and other visuals using Adobe Illustrator and FrameMaker to accompany documentation.
  • Act as a researcher, proactively seeking clarifications and gathering comprehensive information from cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of professional experience as a Technical Writer, or a senior-level candidate with strong experience in technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Madcap Flare, Madcap Central (CMS SaaS), and DITA (or similar structured authoring tools).
  • Strong experience with Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe Illustrator for creating and editing technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with line art and visual aids for technical documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of hardware systems and understanding of instructional design principles.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other technical teams to develop documentation that meets regulatory standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in fire & life safety systems or related fields.
  • Experience working with firmware and collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Strong preference for candidates who demonstrate proactive research skills.
