About the position

The Technical Writer position at CACI involves supporting the BEAGLE Agile Solution Factory Team, which is dedicated to enhancing the safety and security of the nation through effective documentation practices. The role requires a proactive and organized individual who can adapt to a fast-paced Agile environment, ensuring that all documentation requirements are met in parallel with software development. The ideal candidate will work closely with subject matter experts and project teams to produce high-quality technical documentation that supports the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) mission.

Responsibilities

  • Create technical project documentation, reports, brochures, manuals, and training materials for various uses.
  • Update product user manuals iteratively, including graphics, formatting, editing, and deployment of materials to production.
  • Ensure all project standards are met to maintain high-quality documentation.
  • Manage the project team documentation repository for effective file management.
  • Communicate effectively with SMEs and managers at all levels to ensure completion of documentation tasks alongside software development.
  • Develop and refine technical writing processes to enhance quality and productivity.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass a CBP background investigation.
  • Five (5+) years of demonstrated technical writing experience.
  • College degree (B.A.; B.S.) in a related discipline.
  • Expert in Microsoft Word, including template design.
  • Experience with layout and design; awareness of Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe FrameMaker or InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop is preferred.
  • Knowledge of document and repository management practices, including using SharePoint, Confluence, or similar tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to interface with various disciplines and personalities, as well as work independently.
  • Strong contextual understanding of technical terminology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with desktop publishing and automated work processing applications, particularly electronic publishing.
  • Experience relating to engineering and architecture drawings and/or operational procedures.
  • Understanding of the software engineering life cycle, including planning, development, requirements management, change management, quality assurance, and release management.
  • Experience editing technical documentation in an Agile Scrum environment.
