About the position

The Technical Writer at Watts plays a crucial role in creating and maintaining a variety of technical documentation that is essential for the effective use of our commercial handwashing and industrial safety products. This position requires a keen understanding of the technical information that is critical to the end user, ensuring that all documentation is user-friendly, accurate, complete, clear, and concise. The Technical Writer will collaborate closely with a team of Product Managers and Engineers to gather necessary information and insights that will inform the documentation process. In this role, the Technical Writer will generate high-quality technical documents for both electronic and print publication, adhering to established graphic standards and style guides. This includes determining the appropriate photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts needed to effectively illustrate the material. The Technical Writer will also be responsible for maintaining an organized archive of all documents and revisions, ensuring that all materials are up-to-date and accessible. To ensure the effectiveness of the documentation, the Technical Writer will observe processes and conduct interviews with end users, gathering feedback to refine and improve the documentation. Additionally, the role involves updating or modifying product illustrations and engineering drawings as necessary, managing foreign language translations, and conducting research to produce accurate and comprehensive documents. The Technical Writer may also provide backup support for the Marketing Department as needed and undertake other related duties and projects as required.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of Product Managers and Engineers to identify the technical information critical to the end user.
  • Generate high quality technical documents for electronic and print publication, following graphic standards and style guides.
  • Determine photographs, drawings, diagrams, and/or charts needed to illustrate material.
  • Maintain archive of all documents and revisions.
  • Observe processes and interview end users to test effectiveness of documentation.
  • Update or modify product illustrations and engineering drawings to suit documentation.
  • Manage foreign language translations.
  • Conduct research necessary to produce accurate, comprehensive and best of class documents.
  • Provide back-up support for Marketing Dept. personnel as needed.
  • Other related duties and projects as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Technical Communications or Bachelor of Arts in English or Mass Communication with emphasis in technical writing, and 3-5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High Proficiency in Adobe's InDesign.
  • Proficiency in Adobe's Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of Technical Communication standards, practices and style, in addition to strong grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
  • Engineering, manufacturing or building products experience preferred.
