About the position

Assured Consulting Solutions is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team in Fort Meade, MD. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, review, revision, and maintenance of a variety of technical documents, including software and systems engineering documentation, system operations manuals, testing protocols, and user documentation. This role requires a strong understanding of technical writing principles and the ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner. The Technical Writer will work closely with engineers and other technical personnel to gather information and produce high-quality documentation that meets the needs of both government and industry clients. In this position, you will write and edit technical documentation for all aspects of the project’s hardware and software, including installation guides, configuration manuals, and how-to documentation. You will also create code documentation, implementation guides, and end-user guides, ensuring that all materials are accurate and accessible to a wide audience. The role involves maintaining a current internal documentation library and utilizing various word processing and presentation tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Visio. The Technical Writer will assist in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides, and technical publications. You will be responsible for understanding basic grammar concepts and writing technical copy for various types of documents. This includes preparing reports, responses, and briefings targeted to diverse audiences, coordinating the layout and design of documents, and researching highly technical subject matter to express information in a comprehensible format. Under general direction, you will apply technical writing concepts based on engineering drawings and documentation, producing defense acquisition documentation and user manuals utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems. This position requires a proactive approach to managing documentation projects, including acting as a project leader for complex documentation efforts. You will review the work products of others for compliance with technical standards and provide expert oversight throughout all phases of acquisition and technical documentation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing, with the ability to work independently and maintain highly complex systems documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents including software and systems engineering documentation.
  • Write and edit technical documentation for hardware and software, including installation and configuration guides.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years' experience as a Technical Writer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • A master's degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience.
  • Four (4) years of additional Technical Writer experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with engineers to collect technical information and create documentation with templates.
