About the position

The Technical Writer position within the Department of Government Operations, Division of Finance, is responsible for drafting and writing various documents including policies, procedures, reports, and forms. The role involves reviewing and editing documents for clarity and correctness, as well as designing formats for these documents. The position emphasizes effective communication and the ability to simplify complex ideas for better understanding among users.

Responsibilities

• Write or draft policies and procedures, reference guides, reports, etc.
• Draft Administrative Rules according to set standards.
• Research Utah Code, Administrative Rules, and other similar policies and procedures.
• Review reports and other documents for grammar, punctuation, clarity, etc.
• Design and update forms.
• Create user guides and quick reference guides to assist users in understanding policies and procedures, FINET, and other systems.
• Draw, create, or select graphic charts, drawings, illustrations, etc. to help provide clarity and understanding.
• Create and develop the division's policies and procedures for maintaining record series and retention schedules.
• Communicate effectively with Division leadership and subject matter experts.
• Ability to prioritize multiple, sometimes competing, tasks.

Requirements

• Ability to proficiently use Word and/or Google Docs.
• Ability to write concisely using proper grammar and punctuation.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the audience.
• Ability to visualize changes and edits.
• Ability to organize written work, files, and records.
• Ability to communicate orally.
