About the position

Koniag Management Solutions, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Technical Writer with TS/SCI clearance to support KMS and our government customer at the Mark Center, Alexandria, VA. The Technical Writer will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining user assistance infrastructure, which includes developing how-to sections, FAQs, and Help sections that enhance the user experience and facilitate the use of our applications. This position requires a strong understanding of technical concepts and the ability to translate complex information into clear, concise documentation that meets company standards and guidelines. The Technical Writer will be responsible for updating, editing, and proofreading written materials to ensure accuracy and compliance. Collaboration with subject matter experts, engineers, developers, and the product team is essential to gather information and ensure technical accuracy. The role involves participating in meetings to understand project requirements and timelines, reviewing and editing documentation for clarity and consistency, and conducting regular audits of existing documentation to correct inaccuracies or outdated information. Additionally, the Technical Writer will collaborate with Agile teams, participating in regular sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure documentation is updated in alignment with iterative progress and continuous feedback. The position also includes assisting in the development of detailed design documents, such as system architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and API specifications, while incorporating applicable NIST SP 800-53 controls into documentation standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Create and build out user assistance infrastructure, including how-to sections, FAQs, and Help sections.
  • Develop intuitive, user-friendly documentation that enhances the user experience and facilitates the use of our applications.
  • Update, edit, and proofread written materials.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and complies with company standards and guidelines.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, developers, and the product team to gather information and ensure technical accuracy.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions to understand project requirements and timelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer, preferably within the IT or software development industry.
  • Strong understanding of technical concepts.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools and software.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies strongly desired.
  • Must be a US Citizen, hold a current DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience documenting cloud services, particularly Azure App Services, Azure Functions, AKS, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Certification in technical writing or related fields.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within a government or healthcare organization.
  • Familiarity with DoD/NIST security requirements.
