About the position

The Technical Writer position at The Spearhead Group Inc. involves a critical role in developing comprehensive documentation for the Rail Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing input received from customers and determining any additional requirements necessary for the creation of user guides, maintenance manuals, and training manuals specific to the Rail CBTC system. This role operates under general supervision and requires a high level of collaboration with engineers and other technical personnel to ensure clarity and accuracy in the documentation produced. The Technical Writer will prepare written text and coordinate the layout and organization of manuals and other documents according to established outlines and specifications. This includes researching available technical data such as drawings, design reports, equipment specifications, and test specifications to ensure that all documentation is thorough and meets the needs of the users and maintainers of the CBTC signaling system. The position demands a strong understanding of technical writing principles, particularly in the context of rail signaling systems, and the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and have over five years of experience in technical writing, specifically related to rail signaling systems. The role also requires proficiency in various software tools, including Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft Office Suite, to create and manage documentation effectively. The ability to work in a collaborative environment and engage with technical teams is essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze input received from customers and request further input requirements as necessary.
  • Develop user guides, maintenance manuals, and training manuals for the Rail CBTC system.
  • Prepare written text and coordinate layout and organization of manuals according to prepared outlines and specifications.
  • Research available technical data including drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • More than five years of experience in Technical Writing and Rail Signaling systems.
  • Certification to conduct training as an instructor on the CBTC system in the USA.
  • Proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft Office Suite (Word and PowerPoint).
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to create clear and concise documentation.
