About the position

Seneca Technologies is seeking a Technical Writer in the Washington, DC metro region to support a large GenAI program for our IRS customer. The Technical Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, editing, and proofreading a variety of technical documents, including manuals, procedures, specifications, special reports, and other customer deliverables. This role requires collaboration with management, technical staff, authors, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to define documentation content, guidelines, specifications, and development schedules. The Technical Writer will organize, develop, draft, revise, and edit detailed deliverables and documents tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences. It is essential that the technical documentation produced is accurate, complete, and adheres to editorial and government specifications, as well as standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style. Additionally, the Technical Writer will assist in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations, while maintaining records and files of work and revisions.

Responsibilities

  • Research, write, edit, and proofread technical documents such as manuals, procedures, specifications, and reports.
  • Collaborate with management, technical staff, authors, and SMEs to define documentation content and guidelines.
  • Organize, develop, draft, revise, and edit deliverables for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure technical documentation meets accuracy, completeness, and editorial standards.
  • Assist in establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in technical writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical research, writing, and editing principles and practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to translate technical concepts into readable language.
  • Demonstrated expertise in documentation software and desktop/electronic publishing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, especially Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining procedures and job aids.
  • Experience in requirements gathering and interfacing with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an IRS security clearance.
