About the position

The IT Technical Writer for the NCNG Cyber Team is responsible for creating comprehensive security assessment and penetration testing reports, bulletins, and communications that highlight industry best practices. This role requires the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and informative reports for various stakeholders, while also developing training materials to promote cybersecurity awareness. The position supports the North Carolina National Guard's mission to protect critical infrastructure from cyber threats through effective communication and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Craft comprehensive security assessment and penetration testing reports.
• Create bulletins and communications highlighting industry best practices.
• Develop training materials such as manuals, presentations, and e-learning modules.
• Conduct continuous research into new threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices.
• Analyze technical information and translate it into relevant reports, including security policies and incident response procedures.
• Perform technical reviews of reports to identify inaccuracies and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English, or a technology-related field and one year of experience in technical writing or a technology role; or an Associate degree in technology, business writing, or related fields and two years of experience in technical writing or a technology role.
• Strong foundational knowledge in cybersecurity concepts, including common threats and vulnerabilities.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity tools and technologies, such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
• Exceptional writing skills to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Experience with reviewing, editing, and proofreading documents for accuracy and consistency.
• Ability to manage multiple documentation projects and meet deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in cybersecurity or related fields.
• Knowledge of compliance requirements in cybersecurity.
