About the position

The IT Technical Writer will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining documentation related to applications, websites, and programs. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that technical documents are accurate, clear, and user-friendly, while adhering to established style guidelines. The writer will also be tasked with producing high-quality documentation that meets the needs of its intended audience, including work instructions, process flows, and technical designs.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, and maintain application, website, and program-related documentation.
• Work with relevant stakeholders and technical owners to generate or revise documents as necessary.
• Update document repositories and standardize document naming conventions.
• Review, format, and proofread technical procedure documents for agency customers.
• Produce high-quality documentation appropriate for its intended audience.
• Document procedures, use cases, requirements, and technical designs.
• Create process flows, networking, and infrastructure diagrams.
• Collaborate with a team of analysts, developers, engineers, and IT security professionals.
• Resolve content issues or gaps with contributors.
• Organize material and complete writing assignments according to specified standards.
• Work directly with business and system subject matter experts to ensure accurate communication of policies and procedures.
• Translate technical source materials into user-friendly language without compromising accuracy.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, technical writing, computer science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of three years of demonstrable experience in technical writing, preferably in an IT environment.
• Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation.
• Strong technical aptitude and comfortability with complex technical concepts.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience with IT systems, software development, or networking.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
