About the position

As a Technical Writer, you will play a crucial role in supporting Government activities in Annapolis Junction, M.D. Your primary responsibility will be to provide comprehensive technical writing support for documenting all program deliverables, functions, processes, and accreditation efforts. This position requires a meticulous approach to preparing, reviewing, revising, and maintaining a variety of technical documents, including those related to software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation. On a typical day, you will engage in writing and editing technical documentation that encompasses all hardware and software requirements of the project. This includes creating installation, configuration, and how-to documentation that is clear and accessible to end users. You will also be responsible for producing implementation guides and end-user guides for various capabilities, as well as providing detailed field, data definition, and data flow documentation. Your role will involve formatting technical publications derived from pamphlets, technical drawings, and consultations with technical personnel and other available resources. In addition to these tasks, you will standardize documentation by creating and implementing templates for all document types, ensuring consistency and clarity across all materials. You will maintain a document library that facilitates easy storage, retrieval, updates, and reviews of documents. Participation in special projects may also be required, allowing you to contribute to a variety of initiatives within the organization.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in technical research, writing, and editing
  • Knowledge of and ability to use various word-processing and desktop publishing software applications
  • Knowledge of the organization's products and services, customer requirements, purpose and structure of required documentation, and end user's level of understanding
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-starter
