About the position

The Technical Writer at Capstone Turbine is responsible for moderate to complex technical documentation tasks and projects, focusing on either writing or editing. This role is crucial in creating, developing, and maintaining reference documentation such as manuals, procedures, technical specifications, presentations, and proposals that are utilized by customers or internal staff. The Technical Writer will translate technical and complicated information into clear, concise documents tailored for various target audiences, ensuring that the information is accessible and understandable. In this position, the Technical Writer will collaborate with other departments to produce a diverse range of technical publications. This includes interviewing subject matter experts and technical staff to gather necessary information, preparing written content, and coordinating the layout and organization of materials. The role also involves researching information from drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications to fill any gaps in documentation, ensuring that all materials are accurate and comprehensive. The Technical Writer must demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills, as well as excellent writing and editing capabilities. A technical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and components is essential, as the writer will need to manage projects efficiently while working under stress and time pressures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, multimedia applications, and course authoring tools is also required to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of this role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years development, test, or field service experience in an electrical or gas turbine environment is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Technical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and components.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient with multimedia applications and course authoring tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Livecycle Designer, XML, or HTML based publishing.
