About the position

Tuknik Government Services, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Technical Writer to support TGS and our government customer in Baltimore, MD. This position is essential for providing high-quality technical documentation and support for the Division of Information Technology Integration (DITI) within the Office of Hearings Operations (OHO). The Technical Writer will be responsible for researching, collecting, and organizing information to prepare various IT materials, guidelines, and documentation. The role requires clarity and accuracy in writing, as well as collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure the documentation is comprehensive and precise. The Technical Writer will engage in a variety of tasks, including creating IT administrative correspondence, reviewing and managing internal requests, preparing formal presentations, and developing training materials. The position also involves managing a content repository, gathering feedback for continuous improvement, and producing user manuals, application documentation, and troubleshooting guides. The Technical Writer will work closely with other technicians and stakeholders to vet and finalize documentation, ensuring that all materials meet the necessary standards and requirements. This full-time position requires support during standard business hours, with flexibility to accommodate government needs. The role may involve travel to various SSA and OHO Headquarters locations, and the contractor may be required to report for duty during inclement weather or emergencies. The work environment is primarily indoors, in a professional office setting, with a noise level that is mostly low to moderate. The incumbent will be expected to perform tasks that may require standing, walking, sitting, and using standard office equipment, while also managing a workload that may involve extended periods of sitting and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Support Information Technology (IT) technical documentation efforts.
  • Research, collect, and organize information for IT materials, guidelines, and documentation.
  • Write and create documentation with clarity and accuracy.
  • Create, review, vet, and distribute policy or process documents.
  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations to communicate technical and non-technical information.
  • Develop training materials and curriculums in conjunction with Subject Matter Experts.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to gather technical information and ensure accuracy in documentation.
  • Review and edit content created by other team members for quality and consistency.
  • Manage a content repository or documentation system for easy access and version control.
  • Gather feedback from users and stakeholders to improve documentation.
  • Create data flow diagrams to represent data flow within systems.
  • Analyze and create decision trees to illustrate decision-making processes.
  • Produce user manuals, application documentation, and release notes.
  • Build and maintain online help systems for user guidance.
  • Research and produce whitepapers and case studies.
  • Create video tutorials or screencasts to assist users.
  • Develop and maintain style guides for documentation consistency.
  • Write compliance documents to adhere to industry regulations.
  • Populate and update a knowledge base with articles addressing user queries.
  • Create quality assurance and testing documentation.
  • Produce troubleshooting guides to help users resolve common issues.
  • Regularly update documentation to reflect changes in products or services.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in technical writing and documentation.
  • Experience providing technical support and reporting information to management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to multitask and pay attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with IT tools such as Confluence and Jira.
  • Familiarity with creating video tutorials or screencasts.
  • Knowledge of compliance documentation standards.
