About the position

The Technical Writer I position at Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) involves supporting research and development activities by creating and editing technical documentation for innovative technologies aimed at the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DoE). The role offers the opportunity to collaborate with engineers, physicists, and technicians in a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to both existing and new programs.

Responsibilities

• Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other contributing authors and technical personnel.
• Create physical media for distribution, such as printed and bound workbooks, flyers, and brochures.
• Interview production and engineering personnel to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
• Organize technical content to create narratives for a variety of audiences.
• Review writing assignments and create information exchange standards regarding clarity and terminology.
• Observe production and experimental activities to determine operating procedures.
• Prepare and deliver training information for various applications.
• Assist in developing control procedures for in-house documentation.
• Copy-edit technical contributions, reports, and procedures.
• Create and maintain organization of writing assignment matrix.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field.
• One to three years of related experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong grammar skills for technical reporting.
• Basic understanding of physics and engineering concepts.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves
